Redone Values & a Wing

Tried to be more aggressive with my values. Also added in one wing, still working on it.

No longer bald

Blocking in the hair now!
Also fixed her neck xD

I'll probably be doing the wings after the hair. It's not going to stay white, I'm just using it for now so it contrasts enough so I can clearly see what the hell I'm doing. Her hair is going to be light however to help stand out against the black wings.
The hand and arm got messed up. I gave up on it for now, so please ignore that lol
In the post below this, she is still bald, so feel free to refer back to that for anatomy critique.

Newer, and closeup:

I'm really frustrated with the hair. Going to bed. Not sure when I'll get to fix this.

Tablet's Here!

Welp, my tablet arrived in the mail Monday afternoon!
Instead of sleeping like a good little Lullx, I've been up all night trying it out.

This is a [hopfully] more finished version of my previous few sketches.
Yes, she will be wearing clothing. I just took this as an opportunity to practice shading and values on the human body.

I'll clean this up more later and hopefully start adding actual details.
...Eventually.
I think I'm going to end up leaving her greyscaled.

But as always, feedback is greatly appreciated!

Pose Redo

Altered the pose a bit from yesterday. Decided to throw this into a new post for God knows what reason.
I think her head looks too big now, but meh. Feedback's greatly appreciated.

Mouse WIP

I've been going crazy trying to fix this with a wireless laser mouse. I took a picture of myself for a reference for the head/neck/arm area, in a futile attempt to make this look more dramatic and accurate.
This is so difficult to do without my tablet x_x

It still looks incredibly off, but I'm trying to focus on the top half for now. If I try to redo it all at the same time, I will implode.

To the Birds

Spring Break this week, but I've been feeling very ill and spending most of my freetime sleeping lol
So here we have a pose developed from my mind. No reference, though I will go through and use some when I do this again for a digital piece.

The camera must have been at a weird angle, because this looks way more out of proportion than it does in my sketchbook... I'll try to scan this later to get a better image.

Don't mind the messy feathers, I'm just planning out the image. Need to do wing studies.
Also lol, claw hand.

Edit: So, I totally tried to redo this in SAI. With a mouse. I really need my tablet lol

Wonky

Half awake doodle. The anatomy's off. No reference.
An idea for a full drawing popped in my head, so I wanted to test out the pose I had in mind for it...

A few nose attempts

This didn't work out too well at all. I'm fairly confident that I have the shape down fine, but my chinese white pencil [which I was attempting to use as a highlight on the creme paper] just ended up smudging everything ):
...That and the 2nd one is a little crooked. I'm still trying to get used to working with soft shapes like this. Trying to break out of my hard lineart comfort zone, because noses are soft features. The lips were more successful.

Disembodied facial features.

Just trying to study from life more, and do something a bit more involved than just sketching...
I guess it was just to see what I'm capable of currently.
Terrified to add anything else on the page, for fear that I'll mess up and totally ruin the rest of the studies xD

So for now, I give you an eye, and a pair of lips.
Sorry for the quality on the lips. I think I should draw faces on plain white paper, instead of the off-white/cream paper I'm using currently. I think it'd help with highlights and whatnot...

Feedback and critique is always welcomed (:
I'm here to learn!

4.11.11 - Interacting with Objects

...Sort of.
Going way out of my comfort zone yet again here. I drew a ghetto chair. Please don't laugh at it ):
I just wanted to try a pose of someone sitting on something, instead of just hanging out in mid air or some other nonsense. I am so horrible with scenery and objects and... just about everything.
But I'm trying x_x

Also my scanner is really bad... I hatched the chair so that you can tell what's the model and what's the chair, but it's a bit difficult to see on this scan. I need to learn to draw heavier... I edited this in GIMP to make the lines as dark as possible, but it's still really light in some areas, as you can see. I apologize for that ):
Fixed up a few spots, and tried my best to make the lines heavier.

Also, the negative spaces don't match up quite as well as I hoped they would [thanks to Miri for that tip!], but ugh. Other than it being a little wonky, especially compared to the reference, I'm pretty damn happy with it.
That right leg took forever.

Too much free time.

A while ago, I finished a CG piece based on a spider. You can see the original here.

Well, the eyes really freaked out a few of my friends, so I "censored" it. It was just a quick little thing that we all got a laugh out of.

But today, I was going through my old drawings, looking for something to throw together as an icon for various sites, and I realized something...

Spider Gaga.

Totally unintentional, but it made me laugh really hard.

4.10.11 - Bellydancer Pose

I did this this morning before heading to bed, while half asleep.
Also, the picture came out blue for some reason lol

My stylization is creeping back in with this one, but I'm hoping to turn it into a finished piece. I should be drawing it exactly how I see it, but I was tired and frustrated and just wanted to have a little fun with it I guess.
I messed up on her right arm, as usual. I think the model's hair is really messing me up with the arm/shoulder area.
Will retry this pose in a bit.

4.9.11 - Foreshortening Fail

Dat arm
I'm having some issues with foreshortening ):
I've always had issues with it I guess, so any help with that would be great.
I swear I've redrawn her right arm 4 times, and it just gets messed up even more each time, so I gave up lol

First wonky attempt:
Foreshortening Fail 2:
Electric Boogaloo.

4.8.11 - Hand Study

I had a little bit of time today, while at the hospital for my dad's surgery, to sit down and draw. Not a whole lot of time though, so this was another speed study...

Sadly, my woodless graphite pencil fell from the table while I was hurrying to pack up, and snapped in two. ):
I am still upset over this lol
That, and the lighting wasn't so great. There was this one little nook with a table in the waiting room, but there wasn't much light other than a little ceiling light...thing.
I messed up the proportions a bit, due to time constraints. I thought I'd have more time than I really did.

I feel like I'm just making excuses now, so I'll shut up and let you look at the picture.

My poor pencil.
Also, my Zombies! Encounters with the Hungry Dead book  :D

3.3.11 - Self Portrait Sketch

I found this tucked away in the back of my new sketchbook. Completely forgot about it somehow.
Attempted a quick self portrait sketch back at the beginning of March.
...and I mean quick. This took about 10 minutes? I'm not sure what was going through my mind when I tried to do a self portrait in 10 minutes.
Also, it doesn't come out right on the scanner. My lines are too light. So you have to put up with a poor quality picture. I apologize for these.

Also, I used two pictures of myself for this, as my lighting always seems to be horrid.
I think I may try a new self portrait every so often to track if I'm making any progress. Plus, I really need to practice faces. What better model than yourself, eh?
